New Zealand’s largest independent science organization, Cawthron Institute, presents the Freshwater Champions awards. This month we let you behind the scenes for awards videos.
BRIEF: Produce five 3 minute videos about the award winners. The winners are awarded for their achievements in helping freshwater health across the country. The videos were shown on the awards night in Wellington, released on social media, placed on the Cawthron website and will be shown at upcoming live events.
PRODUCTION: Each video required one interview with a key member of the team and b-roll of the entire team. Two of the videos were filmed right here in Riwaka and the Moutere, with the others in the Wellington region and the Bay Of Plenty.
Telling the entire story of such motivated individuals and groups in such a short space of time is a challenge, but getting it right is extremely exciting. The goal was to tell their story and inspire others to get involved in their own freshwater projects.
Filming these videos took us to the source of the Riwaka, an olive grove, up cattle tracks, deep into wetlands and so much more. Traveling with the entire camera kit is a challenge and backing up footage as you settle into that nights’ accommodation is a must.
We had a great time meeting some amazing people and saw some beautiful spots that so many will never get the chance to see. We love the videos and couldn’t be happier with the reaction to them from Cathron, the award winners and on social media.
